DRIVING
ACROSS AMERICA 45 years ago was an adventure, marked by poor roads, irregularly
placed refueling points, chancy eateries and automobiles that were not
fitted with super-cushion seats, air conditioning, power-assist options
of every description and AM/FM-multiplex-stereo-cassette-tape-recorders
with quadrophonic speakers, doo da doo da. Today, of course, driving the
breadth of the U.S. is less taxing, although the food is still risky.
But adventure is where you find it, or perhaps seek it, and for John Sheally
II and Tim Hund, the search led to the cramped confines of a 1935 MX-4
Super Sports Barrelback Morgan 3-wheeler, to be driven from the shores
of Virginia's Atlantic coast to California for the West Coast Morgan Club's

Morgans on the Lawn-Sheally's idea of a "U.S.A. salute to the 70th
anniversary of the Morgan Motor Co." If the cross-country driving conditions
are no longer the challenge of yesteryear, the obvious answer is to do
it in a car that is 45 years old and thus recapture some of the adventure.
