L purchased my 1959 Plus 4 in 1972 when I was still in high school. That summer
I travelled south to California with 3 high school buddies on a once-in-a-lifetime
trip. When we were in San Francisco, we dropped by your small Morgan shop and
I wanted to buy a leather hood strap. You didn't have one in stock so I paid for
it ($20) and left my forwarding address in Canada. On arriving home, I was chastised
for being so trusting and warned I would likely never see the hood strap or the
money again. About two weeks later, I received a parcel. Not only had you sent
the strap but you had included a birthday card and gift wrapped the parcel, so
that I wouldn't have to pay duty on it when it crossed the border. It was one
of the best "birthday" presents I have ever received and it re-inforced my opinion
of business people in general, and people in the car hobby in particular. The
hood strap is starting to show its age (as am I) but the Mog still looks great.
When I go to replace the hood strap, I will be ordering it from Isis. I am glad
that you, like my '59, are still going strong. I wish you continued success and
I will always remember the way you treated a young Morgan enthusiast from Canada
over thirty years ago. Jim Inglis

I've dreamed of Morgans for years. My question is, folks: is this in any way,
shape or form, an actual car one can drive as transportation (caveat: I'm in no
way a mechanic, never hope to be one, just a girl who wants to be stylish). My
husband owned an ancient Caddy for a couple years that never ran reliably despite
$7 grand a year in annuities to the mechanics..is owning a Morgan another adventure
in utter impracticality? Thanks.

I have a 1953 4-seater Plus 4 flat rad which I have owned since I was 23. I
am now 57 but would never part with "Homer". My wife and I rebuilt it form the
chassis up for the fisrt 3 years of our married life (1973-1976), after which
we went on to have 4 children! So the Morgan is really our first child! I currently
have a problem with the starter motor, as the rubber-lined drive/shock absorber
is all worn away , so the pinion rotates on the shaft. Does anyone know if a new
part can be obtained anywhere? regards, Richard Rowsell

Buckler Close Ratio Gear update for 4/4 Series 2 After searching around and
contacting several gear makers, I found that getting 1 set of gears made is not
worth the cost. The only way I could do it is to pay a gear maker $100 per man/machine
hour, and there was no idea of how many flawed sets would be made to get a good
set. I ended up getting a used set in better condition the the worn wide-ratio
set in the car. The engione/trans rebuild may be complete this month. www.trfindley.com

In the late 50's and early 60's I owned a number of interesting cars(not all
at once!). The most memorable were a 1957 TR-3, 1960 Fiat Abarth Zagato, 1961
Corvette and a 1967 Mustang. However, my love of all time was the Morgan +4. I
used to visit the Morgan dealership located on Broadway in Manhatten, NY and sit
in them, gaze at them, and drool over them. Unfortunately I never got the chance
to own one as I got married in 1962 and raising a family took precedence over
owning a two seater. I was able to slip the Mustang in, but a two seater Morgan
remained beyond my grasp. I am now retired, and living in Southold Long Island,
where lovely country lanes beckon. Perhaps I'll be able to latch onto a used Morgan
at some point, and let it take me back to those laughter filled days of my youth
when I had the TR-3. Sure it was stiff, and the rain leaked in, but when the top
was down and the breeze came in through those cut-away doors, it put joy in my
heart. The Morgan is something that can't be explained using cold logic. It is
unique and special and FUN! I hope I can get hold of one before I die.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am trying to dig up some information on the British
Speciality Automobile Industry, Morgan, AC, Lotus, Caterham. I am working on an
MBA Project with the idea of becoming the Fisher Body of the "Virtual" Automotive
industry. I need to know if there is an Industry Organization for these companies
or any contacts that could assist me in finding public financial information ,
volumes, cost structures of these companies. Thanks for any information you could
send. Dave Grylls, Toledo, OH

When I was a lad, traveling home from a family vacation, a cool-looking sports
car painted in a muted red color sped by our family car. I was later to learn
that this vision was a Morgan. I was smitten, and still am after many, many years.
Before the day comes that I am able to purchase a "fun car" in my retirement years,
I would like to dispel any notion that this may not be a viable idea. In reading
Chris Harvey's book "Morgan, The Last Survivor", the author mentions that the
car is designed for a 5' 10" person and the seat is non-adjustable. What I want
to know is will a 5' 5" person of relatively short inseam be able to reach the
petals? Also, Harvey mentions the high degree of maintenance required with these
vehicles. Is this really a car or is it an avocation? I like tinkering, but I
like other things too. My dream car is a sixties vintage +4, or possibly a 4/4.
Thanks for listening to this hopelessly romantic car nut and best of luck for
you who enjoy the motoring passion. John H.

I have a 62' Plus 4 with gearbox problems. Even with double clutching, it's
almost impossible to downshift from 3rd to 2nd without grinding gears. I've had
two different fixes suggested to me, neither of which sounds very attractive.
One "expert" suggested replacing the Moss Box with a later model Jaguar Moss Box
with full synchromesh. Another said this was not possible as the Moss Box as fitted
to the +4, while looking similar from the outside, is actually different from
the Jaguar Moss Box internally in that it has a different diameter input shaft
and different ratios. This "expert" said that on the Morgan Moss Box, the synchro
ring on 2nd gear is integral with the gear itself and therefore cannot be replaced.
When asked if I couldn't simply get an entire new 2nd gear with synchro ring,
he said that they were no longer available anywhere. If anyone has anything to
add to this I'd appreciate hearing from you. I'm looking for any reasonable fix
to this problem. Driving the car with the gearbox in it's current condition is
simply not an option. Thanks

A San Francisco friend sent me a copy of the Chroncile story. Great!! I still
have an old Road and Track from sometime in the 80s with that feature on you,
Bill, and your Isis Imports and all the modifications you had to do to make them
street legal in the U.S. I've owned the same 1958 Morgan for 37 years, have driven
it more than 200,000 miles, am now on my third engine (upgraded to 1600 c.c. crossflow)
and although the car is unrestored, its still reliable and as fun as ever to drive.
Love your website!! P.S. I belong to Morgan Owners Group Northwest. Many of us
will participate in the British Car Run from West Vancouver to scenic Whistler
Saturday, September 23rd.

I've seen it, I've sat in it, I've been under it, I've talked to lots of people
while they looked at it and I've even driven it (all be it backwards). Yes it
does look cross eyed (goon eyes not moon eyes) and the back does look like a TR3
on testosterone, the cockpit is empty, but the longer you look the more beautiful
it gets. Engineering of the chassis, it still has one, is right out there with
the best and the engine is state of the art, suspension? well very trick stuff
but I'm worryed about the lower arm inner joint and a lot of mass in the front
hub assy for the inboard springs and shocks to control. The rear suspention looks
exellent and their is provision for ABS and traction control although Morgan do
not seem to be interested at the moment, still someone like Libra may work in
this area when the cars are out and the owners want even more. All in all, the
AERO 8 is a whole lot of SUPER CAR! The things you think look ugly now, will be
the features you demand of a Morgan in ten years time. Oh yes, the plastic front
wings, ask the crash test people.

My sad prediction: the new areo is another Plus 4 Plus (remember the fiberglass
areo model of the swinging sixties?) failure. Fibreglass and aluminium do not
a Morgan make. I just hope it doesn't threaten the health of the company!

I have a thoroughly entertaining '67 Plus 4 and have just purchased a '57 4/4
in bits. With the Ford 100E engine, this model of the 4/4 is probably the slowest
of all Morgans. Does anyone have any leads for finding any of the Aquaplane performance
mods for this engine? I don't want to update to a later 105E engine, etc as the
car is otherwise very original. Thanks from GatorMOG country.

Hi All, My first love (with wheels anyway) was a '53 MGTD,my 2nd was a '55
TF (1500). I really enjoyed those cars but a friend of mine had a morgan (64)
and although I never admitted it to her I lusted after her car.My question for
you all literate in Morgans is which plus 8(or?) should I be looking for, considering
price, reliability and perfomance. I used my TD & TF as daily drivers for years.
Thanks, I appreciate any input you could help with. Future Morgan Owner(current
