70 YEARS OF MORGANS

The
little country town of Malvern in England, surrounded by it's own range of hills,
and noted for it's spa waters, is an unusual setting in which to find an automobile
factory. But Morgans have been built there for the last 70 years and indications
are they will be built there for the next 70 years.
The originator of this activity was really the Rev H.G. Morgan, who was a pillar
of the church in those parts and later a frequent spectator at Brooklands, where
he always wore a top hat. In 1906, he gave his son H. F. S. Morgan, who had
been apprenticed in steam to the Great Western Railway, the sum of 4000 Pounds
to buy the Malvern Link Works. H.F.S. started a bus company and then went on
to build the long succession of 3 and 4 wheel cars that bear his name.
A great believer in competition successes as a means of selling cars, H.F.S.
appeared at speed events, rallies, and trials almost every weekend of his life,
always accompanied by his wife Ruth. When he died in 1959, it was fortunate
that he was able to pass on to his son Peter, not only the company but also
his particular enthusiasm and affection for strange and unusual machinery. --Tony
